A thirty-five minute
ferry ride from downtown Auckland, Waiheke, Island of wine, is located
in the Hauraki Gulf. This once quiet summer resort has grown into an important
Auckland wine region known for award winning cabernet and merlot wines.
There are twenty four vineyards and a growing number of wineries on the
island. Waiheke restaurants offer an excellent opportunity to sample New
Zealand cuisine.
In addition to the vineyard tours, visitors
enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities including golf, tennis, kayaking,
horseback riding, walking trails, swimming, and relaxing at the beach.
